The Charlottesville area is a community of remarkable beauty, character and resources. But with nearly a quarter of the city’s children living at or below the federal poverty level, not every family in our community has access to the information, resources and support needed to create a healthy, nurturing home. That’s where CHiP comes in. We partner some our community’s most vulnerable families with skilled Community Health Nurses and Family Support Workers to access health care and health education, promote positive parenting, and foster family self-sufficiency.
On October 8, 2013, we will be hosting the third annual Imagine Awards a uniquely inspiring evening celebrating the accomplishments of select CHiP families – those who have dared to imagine a healthy, nurturing home for their children despite significant barriers. Last year, thanks to our Champion Host Sponsors, Sheila and Ted Weschler, and with the help of Master of Ceremonies Stephanie Satchell of CBS19 News, we honored three families before an audience of 240 CHiP supporters and community leaders. Not only were their stories of struggle, determination and perseverance moving, their successes confirm our belief that an investment in supporting and strengthening families yields great returns. This year we look forward to presenting equally compelling stories.
